The spod itself is similar to a grounbait feeder but it has one end blocked off, however, a spod has buoyancy at the bottom, this allows it to empty itself on landing. The key to spodding is accurate casting. Bear this in mind as the feature continues! Dan had a 3kg bag of hemp that he planned to spod with 6 different casts to put a bed of bait tight to the island, as shown in the diagrams below (the first image shows Dan's choice of spodding area, the second image shows where the spod landed):   Instead of accurate casting of the spod to build up a bed of feed upon which to cast, Dan spread 3kg of hemp over an area just under the size of a football pitch!
