 Angler File: The Crap Angler UK PB: 26lb 11oz Common Carp Sponsor: Not Ron Thompson Todays Feature: Misty Voyage Last time I fished Slinket was in 2008 and on my first visit I somehow managed to land the lake record 18lb Mirror Carp. I named her Misty. This visit to Slinket was on September 10th 2009. Although the 1st bailiff who came round seemed to think it was the 9th and duly wrote the wrong date on both my ticket and Dan's. I decided to fish Slinket lake because I want to catch Misty again, which I believe could be quite a challenge, which is no bad thing. When I arrived there were 2 people fishing either side of the peg I wanted. After walking around the lake I chose a spot on the other side of the lake to the 2 other fishermen. Before Dan arrived I missed a run, I'm not sure how, it screamed off, I lifted into it and there was nothing there! I hope I picked up the correct rod! Shortly afterward missing this screaming run, Dan arrived. He was travelling light with just his rods and I chair. I gave him a few boilies and some method mix and watched as "Not John Wilson" flicked his bait out perfectly under an over-hanging tree with an inch perfect cast. About a minute later I saw Dan walking towards a lilly pad to his left and before he got there, his Delk's roared - he attempted to run - somehow made it back to his rod, FISH ON! Hold that thought, Pasty on! Dan had finally broken his Slinket duck on about his fourth attempt! Thank goodness for the re-stocking policy! After putting the carp back safely in the water, Dan looked to cast out under another over hanging tree, slightly further away. I watched as the cast sailed out towards the tree and never to return again! I believe Dan then managed to lose another set of tackle on his next cast, I believe something snapped but don't remember the full details. I have never seen Dan lose so much tackle in one session. I also managed to lost a method feeder, when on my first cast of the day I managed to cast straight onto the island and into the tree. If Dan is reading this he is probably doubting my claims as he doesn't think I can cast more than 8 feet... Personally, I blanked - what do you expect? I am the crap angler. I missed 4 runs in total - I think I may have run out of talent, a bit like the bailiff with his knowledge of dates of the year. The search for Misty will continue. I will still attempt to re-catch the 18lb Mirror Carp. Only time will tell whether I manage to catch this carp or whether I am too crap to catch this carp! |
